What are the top 250 classic christmas songs of all time (most played
on US radio, most purchased by US consumers)

Both title and artist are required

I have not been able to find a list of 250. I've located a list of 100
Christmas songs, and a different list of 101, ranked in order of
popularity by two radio stations. I also found a site which lists more
than a thousand Christmas hymns and carols, but without a popularity
ranking. Would any of these interest you?

Clarification of Question by mthinker-ga on 14 Aug 2003 12:01 PDT
Yes, all three would be of interest, however, the last list of 1000
significantly less so. It would also be important that there was less
than 50% overlap between the two shorter lists.

The lists of 100 songs and 101 songs do overlap considerably, as might
be expected, since Christmas songs that are popular on one radio
station tend to be popular on another.

I hope another Researcher will be able to find exactly what you need.

If 100-125 is all there is, then that may have to do as a fall back.

If your needs remain unmet for a while, I'd be glad to post the
information I mentioned above as an answer. I do think you should
leave the question open for a while, in case someone can find a list
of 250 for you. Although I'm no slouch as a Researcher, I certainly
can't say that the fact that I didn't find something is an indication
that it doesn't exist. ;-)

As I mentioned earlier, I was not able to find a list of 250, but I
did locate a list of 100 Christmas songs, and a different list of 101,
ranked in order of popularity by two radio stations. There is yet
another list of top 102 Christmas songs, ranked by an individual named
Randy Anthony. I am also posting a link to a site which lists more
than a thousand Christmas hymns and carols, but without a popularity
ranking, and a few miscellaneous links that may be helpful to you.

Here is a list of "Top 100 Songs of Christmas" from the Irish Internet
radio site 2FM. The list is divided into different categories and
decades. Some of these don't strike me as being related to Christmas
(Bohemian Rhapsody??? Y.M.C.A.???), but maybe that's just me:

Randy Anthony's personal list of "Yule Tunes" is interesting, since he
has provided annotation for each song. Just click on the name of the
song, and you'll be taken to a commentary with a brief recording
history:

Dear Mthinker,

I also attempted to research your question, and the only other thing I
found was a list of 150 songs, which is not rated by sales or
popularity.

My recommendation, if you will, is to let Pinkfreud answer the
question.
