I'd like to know where I can find annual lists (going back to at least
1950) of the top US airlines ranked in order of some standard
metric of market share (departures, passengers flown, etc.).

I could find only reports that you have to pay for in order to read.
Otherwise, other free reports on airline market share are limited to
share in a certain airport only, for instance, rather than for the
whole United States.

I did a search for your data.  Unfortunately, I can only find data
from 1990 to the present, and it's only in a very frustrating and
obtuse database format.  I'll give you the site where I found that
info, and perhaps you'll have better luck than I did at digging
through the statistics.
