I am writing this again as to see if anyone missing seeing this the
first time around. I am looking for information about Dr. Eugene
Cordell and I am writing this message again since I have found out a
lot info mation about this man since I last wrote but I still don't
know if the road in mention is named after him, Cordell Ave in
Bethesda, Maryland.

Here is what I know: Eugene Cordell (1843-1913) He was an early
Librarian and Historicogragh at the university of Maryland. In 1903 he
was appointed chairman of the history of medicine dept and also the
main librarian. He also was an outstanding physician, author and
teacher. He also wrote numerous articles about the subject of history
in washington DC. I am also wondering if he knew the developer of the
area around the street Cordell Ave. Also I am wondering if he lived
in the county at anytime of his life.

Please don't tell me to ask the Montgomery County Historical Society
because I have already done that. They have told me very little. If
you can tell me anything more about this man and his possible
connection to the road I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Thank you-

Hi stephenh,
After an exhaustive search on Dr. Eugene Fauntleroy Cordell, I'm able
to find out some info which is more that what you've given in the
question. But there is no mention about the Cordell Ave being named on
Eugene Cordell.

Here is what I've found related to Eugene Fauntleroy Cordell.
[ http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/directory/045.html ] The interesting
thing I found here is that there is a historical collection named
after him "Cordell Collection".

Check this one also for a similar reference.

There is also a mention of his statement on this page:

There is a description of his work when he was in the Medical Alumni
Association and is nicely given here. There is also a picture of him.

There is a nice excerpt from Eugene F. Cordell's "Official" history of
the University.

Here is a mention of when he joined the library as librarian and what
changes he made under his guidance.

There is also a mention about the book and journal he wrote.

I'm sorry I am looking for more indepth details issue about Eugene F.
Cordell than what you provided. I can't give to you or anyone else the
money until the answer can be found. Sorry that is my policy I must
stand-by. The question that will get the money is: Is the street in
Bethesda, Maryland named "Cordell Ave" named after Eugene F. Cordell
or not.

Thank you-

If you want the money, "KEEP SEARCHING"

Hello stephenh,
After again searching for all the possibilities, via email, phone,
Google, and many other search engines, the conclusion is that the
street in Bethesda, Maryland named "Cordell Ave" is NOT named after
Eugene F. Cordell.

I hope this will clarify your answer.
Thanks

I have been looking for this answer for a very long time and I was
quite surprised when you told me that Cordell Ave has no connection to
Eugene Cordell. Can you please explain this. What conclusion brought
you to believe this. I think that the street must be named after
someone. I thought sometime ago that maybe the street was named after
one-time senator Cordell Hull but over the last month that I have been
looking for this answer I have realize it is not named ater Cordell
Hull. And was likely named after Eugene Cordell. If you don't think
that the street is named after either ones of them then who do you
think the street is named after. I really want to find this answer. I
won't be giving up until the answer iis found whenever that is.

thank you for your wonderful and continued help.

Hi,
The question you've earlier posted is now entirely different from what
you are asking now. I guess, on first instance only you should have
asked this question "On whose name, the street Cordell Avenue is named
after" and then I would have searched on a totally different pattern.
Anyway, I'll again try to search for this to help you in this new
question.
Your satisfaction is my pleasure.

Will let you know as soon as I find anything.

Thanks for being patient.

Now I am totally confused. What do you mean I should have stated that
I was looking for Eugene Cordell from the start that is what I have
been doing. Come on if you can answer my question I would like to
here from you again. PLEASE do anything you can to find my answer.

Hey,
I think you totally misunderstood my comment. What I meant was that
you should have asked to look for just Cordell Avenue and should not
have mentioned about Eugene. Anyway, I'm trying my best to get
something for you.

Thanks.

Hello

I have been waiting for a response from an email that I sent to a
local government official, supposedly on the committee who chooses the
street names according to the Park and Planning Commission for that
area.

She emailed me the first time requesting me to visit a specific
website, but the information about Cordell Avenue was not there. I
emailed her again today, and advised her that I was still unable to
obtain the information on Cordell Avenue. I asked her again to please
track down the information about the avenue's namesake. As soon as
she emails me with the information, I will be happy to post the
information.

I have attempted many times, through phone calls and emails to various
historians and public officials, to obtain the requested information
on Cordell Avenue. This is such a simple question, and it is amazing
that finding the answer has proven to be so hard. I will continue to
try to find the answer, even if it is only for my personal
satisfaction. I hope you will continue to be as patient, as I promise
to be diligent.
