Dear khullars15,
There are several ways to keep yourself updated on the position of the
Russian representatives in the UN Security Council on various issues.
First, you could visit the UN Security Council site,
<http://www.un.org/Docs/sc/> and follow the discussions and the
decisions.
Particularly, you could visit the Russian Federation's delegation home
page <http://www.un.int/russia/prsdncsc/prsdncsc.htm#english> to get
further information.
You could also search for news on the activity of the Russian
delegation in Google News or similar services, and find yourself
updated with briefs and analyses of the Russian views on certain
matters.
This is, for example, a search for Sergey Lavrov, who is the head of
the delegation:
http://news.google.com/news?num=50&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Sergey+Lavrov%22&sa=N&tab=wn
And this is for the terms "Russia" and "Security Council":

For example, current issues, from the past few days, include the War
on Iraq, which is probably the main issue in the Security Council in
the last few months. Russia, alongside France, objected the war.
You could read a rather current issue, how to handle post-war Iraq, as
discussed in the security council, and some information on Russia's
stand: Key Security Council members say U.S. should give more power to
Iraqis and the United Nations (Boston Globe,
http://www.boston.com/dailynews/241/world/Key_Security_Council_members_s:.shtml)
"Re-reading the Iraq war" Al Ahram,
<http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2003/652/op3.htm>.
More directly, the Russians declared that "UN peace-building
experience should be used in Iraq" (Pravda,
http://newsfromrussia.com/main/2003/08/29/49639.html).
Another "regular" issue discussed in the Security Council is the
conflict in the Middle East, between Israel and its neighbours. Debka
File, a site whose credibility is not clear, reports that Russia,
alongside other members, is planning to support an inclusion of the
"Road Map" as a Security Council resolution (See: "Fresh EU Trap:
Road Map as Security Council Resolution"
Other issues are North Korea and Iran, both allegedly developing
non-conventional weapons. The US presses Russia for a resolution
against these countries, but Russia so far hesitates:

this answer, please let me know before you rate/tip it. |
