Typically the pressure is ok at very low rates of flow. You can test this by trying to stop the water flow with your finger. If you can not, the pressure is likely about 60PSI which is typical for municiple water. At 30 PSI you likely can stop the water flow with your finger, but it is difficult. Less than 30 PSI typically means the utility has a problem, which you likely cannot get them to remedy. In most homes water pressure drops drastically if you have one or more other taps producing a large flow of water. A larger diameter pipe from the meter to the house often produces a large improvement, but perhaps not enough if you feel you need high flow from several taps at the same time. In most locations the water contains calcium bicarbonate which produces scale (when it loses carbon dioxide gas) in pipes and hot water heaters. The scale is mostly calcium carbonate, which can be removed with vinegar or most any acid. The acid also eats iron pipe, so the pipe often fails before you get rid of enough of the scale. The usual fix is to replace most of the pipes in the house, but this costs several thousand dollars unless you can do most of the work yourself. Installing a whole house water softner typically does not get rid of the scale, but keeps more scale from forming. Neil |

If your house is tall enough, you might consider installing a header tank as high as possible. |

Hi, da1 The reasons you can't rate Neilzero are: 1: He has simply commented on your question; not answered it. 2: He is not able to answer it because he is not a Researcher. You can always distinguish Researchers from Commentators because the Researchers' names are always underlined. However, you can always say thanks to Neilzero by way of a further Comment, if you wish. You can also 'close' your question at anytime. Hope this helps. PB (Another Comment from another Humble Commentator) |
