I would like to reach a gallery owner and painter by the name of
Yoshitsugu Yoshii. I have tried the gallery phone number "Gallery
Voyage", but the number seems to be disconnected (it is 415 567 3100).
Is the gallery closed? Is the owner still alive? I wanted to talk
to him about the purchase of a painting he did...

there is a web page talking about the gallery, a photo of the owner in
question and even the phone number, but maybe, only a year after the
web page was published, it is already out of date? the page is at
http://www.japantown.ws/business/

Thank in advance!

Hi banchan,

The final paragraph on the website may answer your query:

"His ability to paint and his creativity is almost endless. He now has
a big project, which is to paint Oni, Japanese word for a devil which
lives in everyone's mind. Yoshii is planning to go back to Japan in
spring 2003, so if you have any ideas about Oni, or if you want him to
paint your image of Oni, it is definitely a good chance to visit the
Gallery Voyage and see his collection, as well as telling him your
story! (Published 11/10/2002)"

Hope this helps,

tlspiegel

I contacted the Nichibei Times, which created and maintains the
website for Japantown and the Japan Center where Yoshii's gallery is
located. According to the Nichibei Times, Yoshii has retired due to
ill health. He will not no longer producing any artwork.

I went to the Japan Center today, and confirmed from another business
owner in the Japan Center mall that Yoshii is retired. He will no
longer be producing works.
