Question ID: 245822
BACKGROUND:
I need "original", "hard-to-find", and "helpful"
content for a website I'm putting together for the natural treatment
of depression.

QUESTION:
I am trying to find approx. 25 medical studies* on the use of
EPA/DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, (common source is fish oil), in
producing any of the following effects*:
-anti-depression
-mood elevation, stabilization (diminished mood swings, aggression,
anxiety)
-joy, bliss, happiness
-improved quality of sleep
-mental clarity, alertness
-optimism
-increased energy (mental/physical)

All links to studies should include the following:
-reference
-number of patients
-dose/day
-duration
-clinical effects and comments (outcome)

PRESENTATION:
So that you spend your time on research and not menial presentation,
you can just include links to the study (as long as it's in English).

FOOTNOTES:
* The National Library of Medicine (Pubmed) only
indexes 20% of the world's medical literature. Studies from all
foreign countries and obscure or hard-to-find studies are accepted
(and sought after). Many studies are not even published in medical
journals. As long as a real doctor (with a
license in his/her country) conducted it (and it's somehow
documented), it counts. The more studies the better. In excess of 25
studies may warrant a tip.
* Effects are listed in order of importance.

Studies can report the findings of using EPA or DHA singularly or
simultaneously.

Studies coming from naturopathic practitioners and
institutions/schools should also be included.

It does not make a difference whether the studies are
placebo-controlled or double-blind.

I AM RE-POSTING THE QUESTION DUE TO A VARIETY OF MINOR EDITS:

BACKGROUND:
I need "original", "hard-to-find", and "helpful"
content for a website I'm putting together for the natural treatment
of depression.

QUESTION:
I am trying to find approx. 20 medical studies on the use of
EPA and/or DHA and/or fish oil in producing any of the following
"effects", listed in order of importance:
* anti-depression
* mood elevation, optimism
* mood stabilization (diminished mood swings, aggression, anxiety)
* joy, bliss, happiness, peace of mind
* improved quality of sleep
* mental clarity, alertness
* increased energy (mental/physical)

I.e., "... All 10 patients showed less severity in their depression
after 2 grams of DHA for 15 days ..."

Any study showing how EPA and/or DHA and/or fish oil "relates" to the
absence or presence of the of the above effects is also acceptable,
i.e. "... 11 out of 15 depressed patients showed lower than normal
levels of EPA ..."

REQUIRED STUDY PARAMTERS:
* reference
* number of patients
* dose/day
* duration
* clinical effects and comments (outcome)

PRESENTATION:
So that you spend your time on research and not tedious presentation,
you can just include links to the study (as long as it's in English).

NOTES:
* The National Library of Medicine (Pubmed) only
indexes 20% of the world's biomedical literature. Studies from all
foreign countries are welcome (and sought after). As long as a
licensed physician conducted the study, and it has some source to
reference, it's perfectly acceptable. Studies coming from
naturopathic and alternative practitioners and institutions/schools
are also welcome (and sought after). Naturopathic and alternative
practitioners in countries such as Peru, Brazil, Japan etc. conduct
many studies that are not published in mainstream american medical
journals. The results of these studies are valuable and should be
brought to light. It does not make a difference whether the studies
are placebo-controlled and/or double-blind. The more studies you can
find, the better. A good job and/or an excess of 20 studies warrants
a tip.

Check out www.omegabrite.com
That's Dr. Andrew Stoll's website for HIS version of omega 3 called
Omega Brite.
You'll see a link to his well-known book there as well.
Many psycho-pharmocologists recommend OmegaBrites for depression,
rather than ordinary fish oil capsules because his Omega 3 capsules
have a different formulation for mood elevation:
"Only OmegaBrite is specially formulated to promote emotional and
physical well-being. The exclusive EPD-7510 formula is based on the
latest scientific research and the clinical experience of leading
doctors. It has the highest concentration of EPA available and a 7:1
ratio of EPA to DHA."
