I'm trying to find a nice coffee table and platform bed for my new
apartment. My problem is this: I cannot seem to find any furniture
stores at my price range that have furniture that would interest me.
I'm looking for stores that sell furniture that's more expensive than
Ikea's, yet cheaper than some high-end stores that would carry a
$12,000 dining set.

A perfect example of the kind of store I'm looking for is "Plummers"
(visit www.plummers.com). They sell things made out of real wood, not
particle board (like Ikea): coffee tables in the $200-500 range and
they also have nice looking beds in the $300-$700 range. I'm looking
to spend about $300 on the coffee table and about $400 (maybe slightly
more) on the bed. I'm not sure what to call a furniture store that
sells stuff like this at prices like these. Specifically, I'm looking
for modernish simplistic minimilistic design. Nothing gaudy or
frilly.. Is this style "Scandanavian" or "Asian" or just "Modern"??
I'm not sure, but it's what I'm looking for.

One way to phrase the question I need an answer to is this: find me a
list of stores that compete in the same market as "Plummers" in the
Los Angeles area (preferably listed in increasing distances from
Pasadena, CA), i.e. furniture stores that sell roughly the same kind
of furniture at roughly the same prices.

Stores with navigable webpages would be highly prefered. Also, if you
have any suggestions about where I can find a lot of this online
(already tried Craigslist, eBay), either new or slightly used, I would
appreciate that too. However, the primary purpose of my question is to
find stores I can physically visit in order to make my purchase in
person..

Please make sure that the stores you suggest fit the listed criteria.

Thanks!
