Question ID: 246095
Our church has an upcoming event during which I will need to project
some live video coming in via satellite onto our large projection
screen in the sanctuary. We already have a computer-and-projector
setup that we use to display PowerPoint slides on this screen. I also
have a video capture device that converts analog audio/video from RCA
jacks into DV via an IEEE port.

I need to know how I can make our computer show this video live and in
full screen mode on our projector. The video cannot be captured and
rendered ahead of time. It needs to go "straight through" from the
IEEE to the VGA.

System specs:

PC: Sony VAIO PCV-RS100, 256 M RAM, 2 GHz Pentium IV, Windows XP
Dual video cards (Intel Extreme and NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440)

   Capture Device: Canpous ADVC-100

Yes that's correct. Here is the signal path:

   RCA or S-Video Source ---> A/D Converter ---> PC ---> Projector

The problem area is in finding appropriate software for the PC. The
programs I have (Windows Movie Maker and Dazzle) will display incoming
video in real time, but only in a small box which is part of the
programs' user interface. I need something that will display it in
full screen mode.

There are probably standalone converters that will convert from
FireWire to VGA, but I will need to quickly switch between PowerPoint
and the live feed without the ugly "blip" created by a simple A/B
switch.

Does this make it clearer?

Well wouldn't you know it. After posting to this forum, I found the
solution myself. So I will offer this as my own answer to the benefit
of anyone who needs to do the same thing I'm doing.

I used the Sony DV Gate Motion video capture software. The video
monitor in this program is a seperate window from the main
application. It can be placed on the secondary display and set to
full screen mode.

Could you clarify?

Right now you have laptop to VGA to projector and that works.
Your satellite broadcast comes in on RCA NTSC composite signal.
(if you're projecting, use s-video, not RCA. more resolution.)
You also have an external NTSC to firewire convertor.
You were thinking of capturing the video coming in the RCA to the
convertor, out the firewire to the PC, and then to the projector using
VGA?

What's the hurdle -- seems like no sweat. Or does the convertor
software only spool the video to HDD, not display it in real time?
