Where can I purchase wholesale small Bohdi trees? Bohdi trees are also
known as Bo trees and their scientific name is ficus religiosa. By
small, I want trees no more than two feet high although I am flexible
on size. I want a greenhouse in the US that has experience with these
trees and will contract grow these trees for me.

Hi-

Please answer a couple of questions that will help a researcher to
provide an answer.

How many trees are you looking to purchase?
Do you prefer the greehouse to be in a particular section of the US?

Thanks

I want a greenhouse that will grow 50 - 100 ficus religiosa (Bodhi/Bo)
trees initially. I would like them to be able to expand the scale if
necessary. They don't have to be growing these trees now, although it
would be nice if they had experience in tropical trees.

I would prefer to have the greenhouse located in North Carolina. If
not NC, then the Southeast. If not the Southeast, then anywhere in the
US would be fine. Nothing overseas.

Hi -

I'm working on your question and have a couple of good leads.
However, many NC nursery people are at the big trade show and
unavailable for the next few days. The show is something you might
want to check out if you are in the Greensboro Area. It's at the
Coliseum through Sat. Aug. 23. Many nursery exhibitors there.

Phone: (919) 816-9119 for more information.

Nellie,

Thanks for the great info on the trade show. I will be attending
tomorrow.

By the way, go ahead and make your comment your answer and pocket the
$50. I am very pleased with your response. I won't need you to contact
these nurseries if I can meet with them in person.

Thanks again. - Graham

Interesting subject to research:

Background on (ficus religiosa):

http://www.hear.org/starr/hiplants/reports/html/ficus_religiosa.htm

From: http://www.theplantmart.com/bbs/posts/1779.html

"Thompson&Morgan used to sell seeds for F. religiosa, as did Park Seed
company, and I had success with both. I remember that the seeds
require light & moderately warm (80F/62c) temps to germinate. Once
potted in loamy soil, moderate watering seemed to suffice."

Neither of those two mentioned F. religiosa seed...

Here is a UK source for seed:
http://www.edirectory.co.uk/chilternseeds/pages/moreinfo.asp?Table=Product&RecordID=BFBAGED

Or India:

http://www.kpr.sk/english_speaking_visitors/plantsselling/india-en.html

Or France:

http://www.b-and-t-world-seeds.com/herb.asp

Here's a place in CA that lists having it:

http://www.bonusweb.com/exotica/list.htm#F

Good luck in your search !

I've had a Bodhi Tree for a couple years which I grew from seed - its
been doing really well in its little pot, but I'd like to know if I
can plant it outside. We live in North Carolina, where it would
certainly be subject to frost. While I've read that they seem quite
happy to grow in many types of soils, I haven't found any information
on planting them outdoors in the US. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jonas
