Dear Tut,

You have, as mentioned before, several possibilities. You could teach
math in a site of your own, or in a site that offers online courses.
You could also apply for an online university or school, to be their
math instructor. The last possibility is actually similar to
application for a job in “real”, brick and mortar, universities or
schools – finding in listings such as www.tes.co.uk and www.jobs.ac.uk
(in the UK); in sites listed at
http://directory.google.com/Top/Reference/Education/Educators/Higher_Education/Academic_Job_Search/?il=1
in the US, etc.

The first two options enable you to form your own course, either in an
already established site, or to use the platform offered by the site,
but to build your own site and courses. Naturally, you could also
choose a fourth option – to build up all from scratch – and form your
own site, with your own payment methods, at any server.

If you decide on building your own site, and also – to a lesser extent
– if you choose to post your courses in an already established site,
you have to remember that things such as accreditation and licensing
as a school change from place to place (country to country, state to
state, if you’re in the US), and you might not always have these
state.

Sites that offer a platform to set your own classes (or to teach their
classes for a fee):

Online Teaching http://www.onlineteaching.com/ refers especially to
math teachers.

Universal Class - http://home.universalclass.com/index.htm - many
classes are unaccredited.

JER Group - http://www.jergroup.com/ - the option to teach online is
indicated at http://www.jergroup.com/teachonline.htm most of their
current courses are computer related.

Similarly, Internet Courses -
http://www.1-internet-courses.com/index.htm - enables you to develop
and teach courses. Basically, what they’re offering, besides the
platform, is some sort of affiliate programme, that offers your
course(s) to the visitors of their site, and vice versa. I am not sure
if they are entirely connected to JER Group, but one of their links
leads to http://www.edu-partner.com/ which offers to “Start up your
own GLOBAL online university today with an affiliate link to JER
Group, Inc.'s online course catalog [sic]”.

Learn Well - http://www.learnwell.org/ - also offers a variety of
courses, and hires through <http://www.learnwell.org/jobs.htm>

The Virtual University - http://vu.org/proposal.html - pays $200
honorarium to people who write courses. This might not be entirely
what you’ve been looking for – you are not required to actually tutor
and assist a class.

The National Extension College - http://www.nec.ac.uk/ - currently
receives no applications, but might be of need of a math instructor.

AEC Online - http://www.aec-online.com/ - offers the platform.

The Usenet alt.education.distance -
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=alt.education.distance
– might has more advices and job offers.

I hope this answered your question. I used search terms such as
[“teach online” math] ; [“online teaching” math] and [“class online”
math] in order to find these answers. Please contact me if you need
any clarifications on this answer before you rate/tip it.

tut83-ga:

You may want to first investigate whether you are better served
working with an established online learning provider, who can take
care of all of the aspects of an online school that have nothing to do
with teaching, such as registration, hosting, software development,
etc.

A leading online learning provider is WebCT; they, in turn, obtain
their online courses from a variety of publishers:

You can also check out http://www.mathprep.com/ to see what the
existing competition is doing.
