Hi there,

The procedures for ordering Ohio birth certificates can be found here:

Ohio Department of Health
http://www.odh.state.oh.us/VitStats/certified.htm

A birth certificate costs $15, and can be ordered by mail or by
visiting their office in person. If you can't wait 7-10 business days,
try VitalChek:

The Ohio Dept of Health will only provide the copy if I can give them
the mother's maiden name. I don't have the parents' names: that is my
problem. Do you have any other suggestions? (I have already tried
to scan the Columbus newspapers for the date in question, for birth
announcements, but the librarian doing that for me found nothing.)

Have you tried their $3 search service?

Researcher simply referred me to the readily available state web site,
which requires the very information I am seeking before it will
respond. His second suggestion has the same problem. This his
answers were useless (and wrong).

If the reason that you are looking for the parents' names is
legitimate, then you may want to consider using sources other than the
birth certificate to try to get the information, namely other family
members, probate records (if the person born in 1934 is now deceased),
marriage records, census records, etc.

SINCERELY,
