I would suggest a complete re-initialization of the volume before you
reinstall. You can do this within the OS X installer setup program. Do
note that this will destroy all pre-existing data on your hard drive!

Hi, Nomis,

I've been a Mac user for many, many years, and, on the recommendation
of a friend who worked at Apple, I bought DiskWarrior years ago. It's
a great app, and I trust it wholeheartedly.

Getting off the point a little bit, everyone whold have a hard drive
backup system in place. There are two types of hard drives: those that
have failed and those that haven't failed yet. That's right, all hard
drives will fail one day. (Let's hope yours is still going strong,
though!) Modern hard drives are well made and should provide years and
years of service. Still, you never know.

So, if possible, back up all the files you can't replace.

After that, I'd run DiskWarrior and just let it do what it thinks is
best. I've run my copy dozens of times, and never had a mishap. Still,
you know Murphy's Law; that's why you should back up, just in case.

You might contact Alsoft, DiskWarrior's maker, directly to see what
error DiskWarrior has found on your drive. This error may be something
simple, and you'll be fine after running DW. I'll put Alsoft's contact
info below.

I should say that I won't be making the jump to OS X until early next
year, so everything I've said is based on my use of the classic Mac
OS. Maybe OS X is different enough that the error message you're
getting signifies something really bad. But again, let's hope not. I
have no reason to believe, though, that the OS X version of
DiskWarrior would be any less capable then the version I'm using. In
fact, when I get my next computer, I'll immediately get the latest
DiskWarrior upgrade CD.

How do you use DW? I always run it from the CD, rather than from an
installed version. I insert my DW CD, then reboot, using the DW CD as
the boot disk. Then I run DW from the CD. When DW is finished, I
reboot normally, and I'm done. BTW, I run DW routinely, as
preventative medicine.

G'luck!
