Our company operates a single large IBM AS/400 which support c 500
users. We are looking for a software product which will help us
simplify the management of the AS/400.
Ideally, we are looking for a product which will do all of the
following :
- spool file management (identify old spool files, large spool files,
scheduled deletion of spool files etc.)
- data management (file reorg., identification of large
files/duplicate files, unused files etc.)
- library management (large libraries, unused libraries etc.)
- object management (unused objects, tidy-up of unused objects such as
devices/lines etc.)
- trend analysis of growing libraries/files/objects
- proactive identification of rogue jobs, sudden increases in disk
usage etc.
- message management with automatic notification via SMS or eMail when
certain events/messages occur
You will see that the main requirement is for a product/tool which
will (i) help use easily identify unused/unnecessary data, and (ii)
manage disk space proactively i.e. identify rogue jobs eating up
space/resources etc. Ideally, we could get a modular product which
does the above initially, but can grow to take in other areas over
time such as Performance Measurement/Modelling, Security Analysis of
user profile & authorities, improved Job Scheduler etc.
We have looked at Robot which is very expensive (Euro 50K +).
For the Answer, can you tell us
- what are the main leading 3 party products companies use to help
manage disk space on their AS/400's (IBM do not provide much/enough in
this area)
- relative merits and rough costs of each
