the term "BX" cable as refered to the armored cabe used in buildings
is the abreviation for ????

As a guess only, I suspect the "X" is a reference to the
cable being fleXible in nature.

I did quite a bit of searching, and could not find what it stands for
exactly.

"Basic armored cable was developed in the early 1900s by Harry
Greenfield and Gus Johnson, who called their product BX cable. It has
become a generic term for all armored cable."

Apparently it's just a brand name with no literal meaning. Although, I
can't say that as a fact.
