Greetings Andrewkhs,
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope the information below answers your
questions on the different weaving techniques used to produce different kinds
of terry toweling.
==What is Terry Cloth?
Terry Cloth is a looped pile fabric that is either woven or knitted. It is very
absorbent and used for towels, bathrobes and similar products.

==How is Terry Cloth Made?
Terry cloth is made using two sets of warp yarns. One set of warp yarns is
under very little tension; when the filling yarns are packed into place, these
loose yarns are pushed backward along with the filling yarns, and loops are
formed. Typical uses include towels, robes, and apparel.
There are three types of mechanical loom that are used for weaving. The plain
loom produces only limited patterns, and the Dobby loom small simple patterns,
while the Jacquard loom can cope with a tremendous range of patterns including
brocades and damasks. Special effects can be obtained using two sets of both
warp and weft threads, one set being for the main body of the fabric and the
other set being used for the pattern as and when necessary.

Dobby loom? Jacquard loom? What about special patterns? The following websites
should help in your understanding some of the textile jargon. They are listed
in order of increasing complexity.

This site gives a nice basic overview of how terry cloth is made. Also
provides a very straightforward explanation of the difference between dobby and
jacquard looms.
