Question ID: 246786
I want to work from home, in the UK, in a phone-based job. (chatline,
customer services, directory enquiries, advice, or something similar).

I need to find some UK agencies who deal with this kind of work, or a
list of companies who operate in this way.

Any sites which offer advice on how to get into this line of work
would also be very useful.

Note. For chatline work - I am male, which unfortunately makes the
opportunities much fewer and far between.

Hi Craniumoxide,
Thank you for your question.
You should find the following contacts useful in finding phone-based
jobs:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
• Telework Association (TCA) - Tel: 0800 616008
"The TCA provides advice on how to approach teleworking, information
on technology, examples of how other people progress - and uniquely -
information about work opportunities.  In the bi-monthly magazine,
Teleworker, and in a weekly electronic bulletin the TCA sends out
updates and information about full-time and temporary telework
opportunities."

for larger contracts requiring a number of workers and provides the
general administration required. Highland Telematics also provides
advice, quality control, support and training.
If you would like to join our register of teleworkers and are based in

• PlanetRecruit
http://www.planetrecruit.com/
UK site with good search facilities and the option to receive daily
updates on suitable vacancies. Using the keywords "work from home"
generated over 40 genuine skilled vacancies, particularly computer
programming, but also offering a wide range of other vacancies.
Here's one i found which may be suitable:
"Part-time Telesales, Home based telesales, Telesales Home based
4 hours a day - 3 days a week - £9 per hour. Part-time Telesales (home
based). This is an excellent opportunity to gain some extra money and
is very convenient as the role can be home based (phone line

I also came across this job opportunity for adult chat line operators,
though work for males is scarce:

"Employment
Read the following carefully, and note, please do not email requesting
details of how to work on the phone lines. The only way to get
information is to cal 08700 467 767.
1)	Adult Chat Line Work
We work with the largest employer of girls for 1-2-1 chat lines in the
UK. All girls work from home, and the company provide all the back-up
and support you’ll need. There is always huge demand for this sort of
work, and there is usually a waiting list.
For full information call 08700 467 767 and quote Telephone Sexy as a
reference. (Guys, I don’t think there’s work available for you, but
feel free to call and find out!)"

Thanks for your answers, however the majority of the links you
provided are for people who want to telework. As I understand it,
teleworking is like any other job, except you work from home, using
your pc, internet and phone to get the work done.

However, I am looking for work that is purely based on using the phone
and maybe the internet, so its primarily chatlines, customer services,
phone voice-talent jobs etc, that I'm looking for. If you are able
to narrow down the results with that in mind, that would be helpful.

I should have specified NOT telesales. My fault. But I want to be
receiving the calls, not making them :)

Okay, I'll look into that for you!
I'll get back to you as soon as i can.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi Craniumoxide,
On the website of the "Alliance of UK Virtual Assistants", I found a
list of Virtual Assistants (VA) who offer remote support for companies
including telephone answering services. I would suggest you contact
one of these companies to see if they can help you get into this line
of work.

HI Craniumoxide,
This job opportunity was just sent to me from the owner of the

ordinary computer microphone and a CD writer. The job involves about 3
hours work each month, and the pay is £8 per hour. Contact Jonathan
