Question ID: 246866
I have a database that keeps track of travel requests and costs from
each department. I have a separate database that has the travel
budget for each department. The overall organization has a set amount
it will spend on travel. I need to create a report to sumarize how
much each department has spent on travel, what their remaining balance
is and then the remaining balance for the organization. To do this, I
would like for a dialog box to pop up when the user clicks on the
report, where they will enter the department. This way, the report
can be customized for each department.

How can I: create the dialog box to do this action; specify for the
report to tally up all travel requests and then subtract it from their
overall budget; AND then get the report to tally up all departments'
budgets and subtract it from the overall organization's travel expense
budget?

Please help!

Hi, dominyon-ga:

Are you familiar with attached tables in Access? Would you be able to
create this report (with a dialog box to enter the parameter of
department) if all the tables were in a single Access database?

You seem to have questions about both aspects: connecting the two
databases and building this report. I'm trying to help you narrow the
focus of the question, particularly in view of your limited "budget"
for this topic.

I know it sounds confusing. I know how to connect tables and I know
how to build reports. I need to know how to create the dialog box,
for one. And, I have never used Access for accounting purposes, so I
don't really know how to get it to tally up expenses to reflect the
new balance.

If you could just help me with the dialog box (I'm not very good with
this type of coding), I can figure out the accounting part.

In short, either InputBox command or Parameter in query will pop up
the dialog box for you.
