i appreciate pinkfreud-ga's comment. i am willing to settle for less
than ironclad proof. let's go for reasonable proof.

ok, maybe even reasonable proof may be tough. maybe conjectural
evidence will have to do.

There is much speculation about this, but I don't think you are going
to find ironclad proof.

Even "reasonable proof" seems to be lacking. All I've been able to
turn up is what might be termed "speculation" or "suspicion" regarding
the true identity of Ted L. Nancy. Two individuals are frequently
named in these speculations, but I haven't seen a shred of actual
evidence.

Ray,

Here's an example of the kind of flimsy "proof" that is available
(this was written by Jerry Oppenheimer, who has written a book about
Jerry Seinfeld):

"In your opinion, is Jerry Seinfeld the real Ted L. Nancy of the
"Letters From a a Nut" book series that is rumored to be spawning a
television show? I've read all three of the books and some of the
twisted humor seems to be Seinfeld's style. Also, his explanation that
he just found the letters at a party seems pretty bogus. Did your
research uncover anything on the Ted L. Nancy connection?

Jerry Oppenheimer: Jerry is NOT ted nancy, who is actually a comedian
named barry marder, a friend of jerry's. jerry wrote the intros to the
books, and jerry is now working behind the scenes on an abc pilot
based on marder's books."

Check the copyright page of the books -- usually if a person uses a
pseudonym their real name will appear as the copyright owner of the
work. This is how it works with romance novels so it's worth a shot.

I always thought that the Letters from a Nut started because of a book
published the year before -- Idiot Letters. That one was a stand alone
but it seems to have spawned the three "nut" books.
