This article suggests that unfortunately, there was a long gap between Benjamin Banneker and other African-American astronomers of note. "From Banneker to Best: Some Stellar Careers In Astronomy and Astrophysics", by Robert Fikes, Jr. (Autumn 2000) Mathematicians of the African Diaspora http://www.math.buffalo.edu/mad/special/Black.Astronomers-Fikes.pdf Hopefully, another Researcher will find additional information. If not, I could post this as an answer. |
