I'm seeking an analysis of the relative merits and problems associated
with the different methods of creating an economically or politically
independent entity, whether a city in the developed world, a new
nation, or even a
nationless economy.
My understanding of an independent political entity would be one that
is not restrained by the laws of any particular nation, except insofar
as import/export laws effect trade. An economic entity would be
something that is able to set levels of taxation, and vote on policies
(as long as they are congruent with the constitution and laws of the
governing state and or nation). In terms of what I would consider a
nationless economy, an internet entity such as ebay might count,
though it would preferably be located in a nation or state that has
low/no corporate income tax. Any other ideas as to what might
constitute a political, economic, or nationless entity would be
appreciated.
The ideal analysis should include a list of states and/or nations that
have low tax and regulatory burdens, along with a modicum of political
stability. Of special interest are island nations. Additionally, any
information on neutral international territory, as well as whether
nations still engage in sales of land (such as the lousiana purchase,
but not at that scale) to other nations or private entities.
Interesting places to start might be the CIA world factbook, and
inquiries into the status of the island that Disney owns and whether
it is considered politically independent. I'm very willing to provide
clarifications to the question, as well as what I'm desiring in an
answer. I'm planning a series of follow-up questions depending on what
is discovered, so some depth in the analysis and perhaps a list of
what you would consider important follow-up questions would be
appreciated. Thanks in advance for all the help :) |
