Please show me a good and simple comparison between the two MTAs.

Priority is to robustness, spam & security protection, customizability
and ease of admin.

Thank you.

Hello, lizardnation;

I just wondered if you are still in need of an answer for this
question, or if snsh-ga's comment gave you what you needed.

As someone who has messed with sendmail, qmail, and postfix, I can
personally say that postfix is my favorite. It has human-readable
config files (as opposed to sendmail's horrible configuration files)
and was more intuitive for me to learn than qmail.

Thanks,
bikerman

Hi Bikerman,

I'm still interested, even if I had made the decision to go to
postfix, I'd benefit from the information to even back it up a bit
more.

Thank you.

Good morning,

There is a pretty thorough comparison of Exim, Postfix, Qmail, and
Sendmail in the Mailman FAQ. It has links to each homepage, and
covers ease of configuration, security, and performance.
http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-mm.py?req=all#4.2

This site has pretty good comparison, but it was last modified in
July 2002, so it is a bit dated in the rapidly changing world of
open source software development.

There is a link to an up-to-date comparison here, but I am unable
to get to it. I am including it because it is probably a
temporary (or perhaps even regional) problem.

As for spam, I would suggest the use of spamassassin (which should
work with any of the MTAs, and I am using it with Postfix
successfully). I get several hundred spams per week, and see very
few of them in my inbox anymore due to spamassassin. For a long
time, it caught 100% of the spam, but now the spammers have gotten
more clever, and I need to tighten things down a bit. But
spamassassin is easy to configure and setup. Do be sure to use
the provided spamc/spamd programs because using the perl version
will bog even a fast server down very quickly. Spamassassin can
be found here

I hope this helps, and good luck!
