I am running an application on my W2000 laptop that requires Internet
Information Server so I can run a browser-based SQLServer application
without being online.

A few days ago, I installed the most current Windows updates and they
appear to have disabled Internet Information Server.

When I go to the Start menu and select Internet Information Server,
nothing fires up.

I have been advised to delete IIS and allow it to be reinstalled so I
go to “Add/Remove Windows Components” and see that Internet
Information Server is ticked; I clear the box to remove it so it can
be reinstalled and it goes onto a dialogue box that says “configuring
Internet Information Server” and then does nothing more.

I check the processes underway in Task Manager and nothing appears to
be working, so I cancel the setup.

Am I right in trying to reinstall Information Server? If so, how can
I overcome this problem of the removal hanging?
