Hi There ! How expensive is air conditioning (say 15,000 btu) versus an industrial box fan (say 15,000 cfm)? I'm only concerned with the cost of electricity, not the units themselves. A 5-star answer would be just 2-3 sentences. A very rough estimate (no sources necessary) is fine. Even if you are off by 30%, that is still accurate enough for me. All comments greatly appreciated ! Thanks. ron |

Howdy ron, A/C - 15,000 BTU - 1.5/Kw x $.066/Kwh = $.099/h = $867/yr Fan - 15,000 CFM - .75/Kw x $.066/Kwh = $.0495/h = $434/yr Looking Forward, denco-ga |

Denco---Oustanding answer, as always. Thanks! ron P.S. You and snsh must live inside a nuclear reactor. Here in California, our power starts at 12 cents/kwh (Tier 1) and increases to 25 cents/kwh (Tier 5). Tier 5 means you are a residential energy hog with many air conditioners and remote control TVs----like me! Thanks for the comparison. It was exactly what I needed...r |

20" box fan 175 watts 3000cfm $0.10/kwh works out to around $12/month if left on 24/7 and you need five of those? $60/month. |

Thanks for the 5 star rating ron... The 6.6 cents comes from the EPA, and they might actually be living inside those reactors, what with that estimate. Tier 1 costs: A/C - $1577/yr Fan - $788/yr Tier 5 costs: A/C - $3285/yr Fan - $1643/yr Where I am (rural Colorado, and part of an electric co-op) we pay 9.4 cents/Kwh. We use a fan, much smaller than 15,000 CFM, to cool our house. Looking Forward, denco-ga |
