In the late '70s or early '80s there was a movie on television about a
family who performed in the circus on the flying trapeze. I believe in
the end, one of them fell off during a performance and was killed.
What is the name of the movie? Maybe "The flying (surname)" ?

Hello Chriso ...

I think you are referring to "The Flying Wallendas", which are a
renown family high-wire act. They are famous for their 7-man pyramid
on the wire (which led to the death when the lead man fell).

The act, billed as "The Flying Wallendas", is the basis for the 1977
movie "The Great Wallendas". The family still performs and is now into
the 6th and 7th generations.

If this is who you are referring to, I'll be happy to give you further
resources to read about them and their legendary high wire act.

Yours,
Serenata

Hi Chriso ...

Thank you for confirming ... I *thought* I recognized The Flying
Wallendas from your question, but wanted to make sure.

I think the best place to find out about this fascinating family of
high wire aerialists is from their own site which can be found here -

Be sure to read the history page which traces the family's performing
back to 1780, and the historical fall while performing the seven-man
pyramid at the State Fair Coliseum in Detroit.

There is much written about the Wallendas which you may enjoy reading.
I used a Google search for the term "Wallendas" and the results can be
seen here:

Thanks for asking, it gave me a chance to review some sites about a
very fascinating family!

Regards,
Serenata
