Question ID: 248677
I am trying to find a company or university that would have
information about german television broadcast during the mid 1960s.
The history of german television in 1966 and 1967. A language program
to learn french that was broadcast at that time. The websites I have
found only note the airing and that is all.

Can anyone find a phone number and address to a television company or
university that would have information about german television
broadcast on learning french during 1966 and 1967?

Dear efcsvye,

The number of TV stations in 1960s' Germany was very limited. In fact,
there were only 11 stations in 1966/1967, most of them regional, all
of them public (private broadcasting, TV as well as radio, was still
not allowed in Germany by then). If the French lesson program was
broadcast in that time, it must have been on one of those stations,
which still exist today - except for "Süddeutscher Rundfunk" (SDR) and
"Südwestfunk" (SWF), which have been merged into "Südwestrundfunk"
(SWR) in 1988, and "Sender Freies Berlin" (SFB), which is now part of
"Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg" (RBB).

Any TV program broadcast in 1966/1967 in West Germany must have been
by one of those stations.
Since I do not know the name of that French language program, I can
only guess; but I know of two programs that would fit with your
description of the time frame '66/'67:

- "Französisch im Fernsehen - Ein Konversationskurs", which was
broadcast by the NDR.

- "Französisch - In Paris gelernt", which was broadcast by the ZDF.

If one of those program names looks familiar to you, you might want to
contact that TV station first.

I found the French language programs in this highly informative
database of German TV schedules from past years, "TV-Programme von
Gestern und Vorgestern" (still under development):

I hope I was able to provide the help you needed.

The two programmes mentioned by Scriptor were accompanied by books:

Marchl, Herbert: Le Français par la télévision. Französisch im
Fernsehen.
Illustr.: Roman Spiro. Düsseldorf, Verl. Polyglotte, 1965. VIII, 183
S.
(presumably accompanying "Französisch im Fernsehen - Ein
Konversationskurs").

Französisch in Paris gelernt : das Textbuch zum Sprachkurs im Zweiten
Deutschen Fernsehen / Bearb. der dt. Ausg.: Theodor Elwert [Autoren:
Pierre Amado, Leon-Louis Grateloup, Fernand Marzelle. Zeichn.:
Fernando Puig Rosado: En France comme si vous y etiez]. Gütersloh :
Bertelsmann-Lesering, 1966. - 335 S. : Ill.
