Hi,

here are my questions (or question if you treat it nicely): I would
like to use the song "I want to get you one way or another..." (famous
from ie Coyote Ugly) in a marketing spot.

Who did the song? Who should I contact to use it in a TV/Internet
marketing spot? What is the estimated cost for using such a song?

Regards,
Tornell

Thanks for asking!

To license "One Way or Another" as performed by Blondie in Coyote
Ugly, you'll need to contact the publishers, Chrysalis Music. The
songwriters are shown as Nigel Douglas Harrison and Deborah Harry.

The song has also been performed by Uriah Heep, Cactus, M.J. Hart, Hit
Crew, and Kayak.

To duplicate my search in the ASCAP database, go to the Title Search
page (after reading the Disclaimer and accepting Terms) and enter the
song name into the text box (One Way or Another).

You'll find a number of music clearance agents in the Google
Directory:

Google Directory - Music Licensing

One of the music clearance expediters listed, EMG, offers an excellent
overview of the clearance process for the Do It Yourselfer.

"To play a song in any medium, you will need synchronization rights
from the publisher of the song. If you want to use a particular
recording of a song, you will also need master rights from the record
label who released the recording."

EMG's "Here's How" section outlines the process from start to
completion, including:

Identifying the Publisher(s)

Pricing is completely negotiable. Pricing can range from free to
thousands of dollars, depending upon the project status (for profit,
school, or non-profit), medium, audience type and number, as well as
other variables. Every license is negotiated individually. Individual
licensing prices are not disclosed.

EMG also notes: "Permissions take time (especially those being sought
for free). Be sure you allow at least a few weeks for copyright owners
to respond."
