My mom, father in-law and Aunt are all appalled by the spam they
recieve. They all use POP3 email. One uses Yahoo Mail forwarding to
Outlook Express, one uses AOL forwarding to Outlook Express while the
last uses Earthlink forwarding to Outlook. Since they never WANT email
from someone they do not know, I thought I would set up an e-mail
filter for them. I would like something easy for them to set up and
maintian. Here's how I would like it to work: they only recieve e-mail
from people they add to a list, all other email is automatically
deleted (never recieved). They only have a hndful of people they
recieve email from. No junk mail folders or bulk mail folders. They
ONLY receive e-mail from people they know and have added to a list. Is
this possible? I will pay $20 for an answer to all scenarios. Thanks
in advance!

dogboy8-ga,

I have a solution but it is a program in and of itself rather than a
filter. Would that interest you? Please advise.

Thanks,
boquinha

I was hoping I wouldn't need additional software as I'm doing remote
support for each of these systems. That said, I would consider a
program (depending on cost) if there is no solution avaialble via the
ISP or e-mail programs themselves.

Hello, dogboy8:
If they use Outlook, they can setup rules to move the e-mail from a
list of senders to the inbox and the rest to the trash. You don't need
any external software because you are not going to filter spam, you
are going just to accept mails from someone you already know. Also,
there are another solutions to filter unwanted e-mail, there are
websites that filter your mail and request new "senders" to confirm
they are not bots sending spam to finally send the mail to the
recipient. If you are interested in some of these solutions, please,
let me know and I will write a full answer.

Regards.

Hi Joseleon,

Yes, I do want more info on the Outlook solution. How about Outlook
Express?

I have also had a moment of clarity. How about a solution that ONLY
accepts email from people in my address. Others I do not receive at
all or go automatically in my trash.

Please advise,
Dogboy

Here's what you do with Outlook Express 6:

Select Tools
Select Message Rules
Select Mail
Select New
Check Where the From line contains people
Check Stop processing more rules
Click on the Contains People link
Add names
Click OK
Now you have your first rule
Start the process over again, but this time, where you select
the conditions for your rule, check For all messages.
Choose the action Delete it
Click OK. Now you have your second rule
Go back to the box that says Message Rules, and make sure your first
rule
  comes before your second
You're done!

Now only the names you have listed in the first rule will show up, and
everything else will be deleted. Make sure that any new people are
added as need be. It's that simple; you don't need to buy new
software or anything like that.

I don't know how to do it in Outlook, so I'm not posting this as an
answer. But I suspect it's quite similar.

Would this be sufficient? Or would you also like details for Outlook?
Or do you need instructions for a different version of Outlook
Express? Thanks.

Hello dogboy8,

If it is possible to you I can provide you a better solution. you can
have a domain with POP3 Account setup on some server which provide
SPAM Filters. your problem will be resolved. As on I can say that
YAHOO and otehr MAIL providers are using the BASIC filteration. For
advance filters one has to have a advanced filters.

Regards.
