How many times did the Chicago Cubs "intentionally" walk Barry Bonds
in the 2003 regular season. I know he was walked nine times
total but how many were "intentional"?

Thank you.

Hello.

4 of the walks were intentional. 5 of the walks were not intentional
(at least not overtly intentional).

Here's a complete breakdown:

----------------------------

April 29, 2003: Cubs win 4-2

1 intentional walk for Barry

source: USA Today
"Bonds was hit twice and intentionally walked once in Baker's return
to
Pacific Bell Park on Tuesday, a 4-2 win for the Cubs.

----------------------------

April 30, 2003: Giants win 5-0

No walks for Barry
source: USA Today
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/scores103/103120/20030430NL---SANFRNCSCO0nr.htm

----------------------------

May 1, 2003: Cubs win 5-1

Barry: 2 intentional walks; 1 non-intentional walk

sources:

"Bonds walked three times Thursday, including two intentional walks. "
source: Chicago Tribune
http://www.angelfire.com/super2/markprior/News/Tribune_5_2_03.html

"Prior intentionally walked Bonds in the fifth with Neifi Perez on
third, and Mark Guthrie intentionally walked Bonds in the seventh with
Ray Durham on third. Bonds also walked in the first."
source: sportingnews.com

----------------------------

July 29, 2003: Cubs win 3-0

1 non-intentional walk for Barry

"The only time Bonds came to the plate with runners on base, Clement
walked him on five pitches."
http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/sports/072903_sp_sf_giants.html

----------------------------

July 30, 2003: Giants win 6-3

2 non-intentional walks for Barry.

source: ChicagoSports.com

"But you can't walk him on purpose. Not with the bases empty. Not in
the second inning. Can you? No, of course not. That would be foolish,
or chicken-hearted. Wood did as any good man would. He came at Bonds,
but not right at him."
...
But Mark Guthrie had to take care, of course, not to let Bonds hit a
ball toward any of the five Great Lakes. So he walked him. Not
intentionally, but he walked him."

----------------------------

July 31, 2003: Cubs win 9-4

Barry: 1 intentional walk; 1 non-intentional walk

source: ChicagoSports.com

"Zambrano had walked Bonds intentionally in the first inning with a
runner on second and he walked him again leading off the fourth
inning."

search strategy:
I found out the dates that Giants had played the Cubs and then search
for game descriptions for those dates. For example:
july 30, bonds, intentionally walked, cubs

I hope this helps.

Sorry for that typo in the search strategy. It should have said:

"...played the Cubs and then searched..."
