For Pinkfreud ONLY: Should I stop reading books?

I read somewhere (Don't ask me where) that "The more books you read, the taller you grow." Now, being perfectly proportioned, I have no wish to grow any taller. Surely 6ft is tall enough? Also, I am worried about the tailoring costs, if it should happen (My budget is already being stretched to breaking point by asking this question.) So, until I get some reassurances, I have stopped reading any books. Also, does this scientific discovery apply to other forms of reading, like speed signs, instructions on frozen food, or even your anticipated answer to this question. Yours apprehensively PB |

My goodness no, I do not think you should stop reading books. Although Mao Tse-Tung went on record as saying "To read too many books is harmful," we must keep in mind that Chairman Mao was probably just trying to hype the sales of his own book by disparaging the competition. It is my belief that no one ever grows metaphorically too tall. As your inner man increases in size, the tailoring costs will be negligible, since the fabric of which the Self is made is very stretchy. In a sense, all of us are like Dr Who's T.A.R.D.I.S. - we are larger on the inside than on the outside. My own exterior is quite compact, to the extent of being runty, but there's a vast expanse of invisible Pink within. So vast, in fact, that I've had to hire an aethereal staff to tidy up the place. My soul has begun to resemble "Upstairs, Downstairs," but without Alistair Cooke. The quote "The more books you read, the taller you grow" comes from one of the metaphorically biggest men I've ever known. He read so many books that he became both tall and wide, and the depth of his heart compared favorably to the Marianas Trench, if hearts and trenches may occupy the same figure of speech. I speak of the late, great Lewis Meyer, who owned a bookstore in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years, and who is (at least in Tulsa) legendary for his erudition, wit, and kindness. I worked in Lewis's shop in 1966. It was my first "real" job. Until I encountered Google Answers (37 years later), it remained the best job I ever had. A bit about Lewis: Tulsa TV Memories: The Lewis Meyer Bookshelf http://tulsatvmemories.com/meyer.html I see that I have wandered a bit in attempting to answer your question. My intellect feels a bit restless today; perhaps I need to go finish that book that's sitting on my nightstand... Best, Pink |

Thank you for the five-star rating and the tip! I did say "Hi" to the cats, but the furry little folks do not speak English, and they failed to respond, so I had to translate "Hi" into the Universal Language: I gave them something tasty to eat. ~Pink |
