During the time period of 1930's-1940's-early 1950's several Detroit/Windsor radio stations (WXYZ-CKLW)broadcast a comic team who plugged for Conn's clothes. The two people would joke about things like "Boxes, boxes, and more boxes" indicating that Conn's never ran out of merchandise. What were the names of these two people? |

Greetings Kagawon: Although I can locate no reference to Conn's, the comedy team you may be looking for is Wayne and Schuster (Lou Weingarten and Frank Shuster). "During their U of T days, the fledgling comedy team was known as Weingarten and Shuster, Frankie and Johnny, Shu and Lew and, eventually, Wayne and Shuster...1946 saw the team return to CBC Radio, live on Thursday nights, holding their own against the big stars on the U.S. airwaves. In the mid-'50s, as TV developed and hungrily grabbed onto entertainment to fill the new medium, Wayne and Shuster guested on many Canadian and U.S. shows..." From http://www.cbc.ca/news/obit/shuster/ I hope another Researcher will be able to confirm that this is the comedy team you seek. Best regards, journalist-ga |
