Question ID: 249154
I would like to know where I can purchase small stainless steel chain.
Like a bike chain, but smaller links, the chain is made from stainless
steel and each link is only about 3-4mm (eigth to three sixteenths
inch) long. It is used in the food handling/conveyor industry. I think
you can by it by the length,i.e. metre. Answers to cover
areas specifically in Melbourne, Australia, or Australia wide, and
worldwide. Thankyou.

Hi dontbeammeup,

There would appear to be a number of manufacturers and distributors of
this type of chain, both in Australia and worldwide, that should meet
your needs.

In Melbourne specifically, contact Renold (an English company with
worldwide offices and distributors). Here’s a .pdf file with
information about their chains that might help you narrow down what
you need:$FILE/Coris%20eng.pdf
Here’s their main webpage: I’d provide a link to
their products, but the page won’t let me. However, it’s easy to
navigate their product lists and you shouldn’t have much trouble
locating the type of chain you’re looking for. Here’s their Melbourne
contact information: Tel +61 (03) 9262 3333 Fax +61 (03) 9561 8561

Another international company with a presence in Australia is Tsubaki
(Japanese link below). Here’s their products page: and their
contacts page (with info for their Melbourne office):

There are a couple of other companies in Australia that appear to have
what you’re looking for.

--Try Miniature Bearings Australia Pty Ltd. Here’s their products
page with roller chains: and
here’s their distributor list:

--An Australian company called “Speedy Exports” lists roller chain
among its products, though they don’t have a specific products page
where you can determine if it’s the kind you need. If you’d like to
contact them, however, their contact info is here:

I hope this information gives you sufficient leads to pursue an
acceptable source for the chain you’re looking for. If anything

Best wishes,

Search strategy:

I began by using the term
“bicycle chain” OR “food conveyor chain”
to learn more about what it was I was searching for. That led me to
the term
 “roller chain”
which I then used as follows:

Melbourne Australia “stainless steel” “roller chain” OR “conveyor
chain” OR “food conveyor chain”

I then widened the search by first dropping “Melbourne,” and then
“Australia” to find worldwide companies. I located specific sources
by sorting through and looking at numerous links which appeared
promising, discarding those that were unsuitable, and keeping those
that offered the product I was looking for. I then searched their
sites to find links to the specific type of chain, i.e. stainless
steel, as well as contact information.
