ADDENDUM: I inadvertantly misstated the the first citation source.
It currently reads:

From The FrequentFlier Crier - A weekly summary of travel news &
opinion
Issue #37 -- March 25, 1999:
"Introduced in 1995, United Connection services allow travelers to
book their own travel online with over 500 airlines, 45 car rental

It should have read:

From Web Travel News
"Introduced in 1995, United Connection services allow travelers to
book their own travel online with over 500 airlines, 45 car rental
companies and 30,000 hotels around the world. The program can be used
to check airline schedules, shop for the lowest fares, purchase
tickets, select seats, and research and reserve hotel rooms and rental
cars directly from the user's desktop."

My apologies for any confusion.

Reponse to questions #1 and #2 seems to be what I was looking for.
Should i have need for clarification after more thorough review I'll
get back to you on it. But unless I missed it, I didn't see an answer
to question #3.

3. which was the first airline to allow its frequent flyer members to
redeem free ticket awards online. When?

Clarification of Answer by journalist-ga on 28 Aug 2003 12:02 PDT
Greetings again, Queryman:

I am delighted you are pleased with my research results on #1 and #2.
Regarding your clarification request, it seems that I neglected to
capitalize the frequent flyer redemption heading. It is above in the
answer and reads:

First airline to allow its frequent flyer members to redeem free
ticket awards online: 1998

"Northwest in 1998 was the first airline to provide its frequent
flyers with the ability to redeem frequent flyer miles online.."
http://www.gamingmagazine.com/managearticle.asp?c=70&a=106

If free ticket awards is not in relation to frequent flyer awards for
tickets, please clarify and I will continue my research in that
direction.

Best regards,
journalist-ga
