I have a computer located in a commercial bank, that is used as a
digital video recorder. It is recording 12 cctv color cameras onto
two 120gb drives. This was the first computer that I setup, and there
are problems with the drives. I would like to re-format the two
drives and start recording with drives that are setup properly. I
need to preserve the recorded pictures (about 6 months of daily
recordings, spread out over the two 80gb drives). How might I backup
the recorded pictures onto other hard drives, so that I can perform the
above fix? Or should I consider other means to achive this. Thank you. Blythe

Do you have a spare large HDD? If so, fastest fix is to replace the
OS HDD with the spare HDD, set things up, and then attach the original
HDD as secondard/slave and copy the old data to the spare. Finally,
if you need the hardware back where things started, run ghost or some
disk cloning tool.

I would do this because an external backup/restore might take hours of
thumb-twiddling.

I general terms I believe I understand your answer. Presently, there
are two, 120gb drives & a cd-burner. Configeration is Drive C =
(master) 120gb drive, D = (slave) CD-burner, and E = (secondary
master) 2nd, 120gb drive. To achive the fix, should I temporary
remove the CD-burner, Install new 120gb drive, setup with Windows 2000
& the recording software, and configer it as (Master). Then configer
the existing two, 120gb drives as (slave) and (secondary master)?
Should I then be able to copy needed data from either or both old
drives to the new drive, and finally, re-format the two old drives,
and ready them for recording. Thank you.

Yep, that sounds about right.
