Bit of advice -- when I asked my insurance company about insuring my
own collection of valuable magazines, they were very specific that the
estimated value needed to be in the form of a signed letter on
letterhead by somebody qualified to appraise the item in question.

Asking somebody to estimate the value of an item they can't see will
probably not fit the bill. Ask your insurance company *exactly* what
they want. And, if they're truly willing to insure something based on
your own personal statement regarding its value, please post the name
and phone number of this company, because I'd like to use them!
