We are currently working on our search engine optimization strategy. We are getting great listing in Google but are not showing up at all on MSN.com (which is powered by Inktomi). Here is some relevant information: 1. When we do the PFI submission for Inktomi, the page that we submit gets spidered and indexed quickly for the appropriate search terms. Therefore, it seems that we aren't having any problems with the optimization of our site but rather our problems lie in the fact that Inktomi is not spidering our entire site. We have submitted both the homepage of the site as well as a subpage for the site as well. 2. The site has been up and operational for at least six months. 3. There doesn't seem to be anything funky on the site that would prevent a spider from easily crawling through the pages (e.g. no frames or anything). 4. Google is picking up the entire site and we have Top Ten listings for most of the search terms that are relevant. 5. The search terms that we're concerned with are fairly obscure and typically have no Zeal or paid listings. A comparision of the MSN.com results with Inktomi Pure Web Search results confirms that MSN.com is pulling entirely from Inktomi for the terms that we are concerned with. If this question requires any further clarification, please feel free to let me know. We've been banging our heads on this for about a month now and can't seem to figure out why we aren't showing up in Inktomi. |

When you use PFI, only the paid URLs are guaranteed to be listed. It makes sense that Inktomi would index the rest of your site, but the question is when, and I don't think anyone outside of Inktomi knows that. Their index used to be updated every month or so, but how much of it is anyone's guess. Their index is much smaller than Google's, and it could be that they are full (!), or perhaps they have given up. Keep in mind that they were recently bought by Overture, which was then bought by Yahoo, so that could be causing disruptions. My advice: Just wait. Submitting your site to these places has an outside chance of speeding things up: http://search2.msn.fr/suggestions/ch/ http://goo502.goo.ne.jp/cgi-bin/feedback/addurl.cgi |
