I'm looking for data on the average charge (in the U.S.) for a day in
a Cardiac Critical Care Unit. If you don't find that data readily
available, I would accept data on the average charge for a day in ICU
or (if all else fails) for a day in the hospital.

One source is OK if it is credible.

Please bear in mind that I am looking for data on average charges and
not on average reimbursement.

Thanks!

I raised the price to $10, hoping to attract some more interest. I'm
not looking for a dissertation or absolutely authoritative data - just
something credible that I can reference.

Two documents in pdf format worth reading:

Hi Natalie –

I'm not sure this is really an answer but I'll give the info and you
can take a look at the site yourself. If it doesn't work for what
you're working on now, it may help you with future projects as there
does seem to be a wealth of information there.

The HCUPnet, Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality, Rockville, MD.
http://www.ahcpr.gov/data/hcup/hcupnet.htm

You can generate reports on their site based on hospital procedures,
types of hospital, sex, diagnosis, geograph location, and other
factors.

Their reports give you average cost of hospital stay (including
procedures) and average number of days per stay.

If you start here:

http://www.ahcpr.gov/data/hcup/hcupnet.htm

Then select the following:

START HPUCNET
NATIONAL STATISTICS
2001 NATIONAL STATISTICS
DIAGNOSIS -- SINGLE LEVEL CLASSIFICATIONS
CHOOSE: SPECIFIC DIAGNOSIS OR PROCEDURES
PRINCIPLE DIAGNOSIS
DISEASES OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
ALL CATEGORIES
SELECT: LENGTH OF STAY and TOTAL CHARGES
(next)
(next)

There, that should give you a chart.

Other than that, I wasn't able to find you the numbers you were
looking for.

Hi knowledge-seeker,

Sorry I vanished for a while there.

If you will post your comment as an answer, then I will be happy to
pay for it. The only thing is, the question has expired. Advise me!
