Question ID: 250041
((switching careers from pharmaceutical sales to pharmaceutical
marketing))...I have good experience in pharmaceutical sales (5
years), some managerial sales experience (2 years), plus a master in
Business Admin (MBA) with major in marketing.
However, I am never accepted when applying for a pharmaceutical
marketing position, since I don't have previous experience.
Do I have to change my resume (tweak it)?? or what???? My company
doesn't have marketing dept., and I am willing to start in a lower
position than the current if I join a marketing staff in good pharma
company

If there are websites that provide resumes dedicated to this (career
switch), or if there are sites that discuss specifically tactics
towards this subject.

Thanks

Hello kimonimo-ga,

Your education and experience are impressive and you should be able to
transition your career from sales to marketing in the pharmaceutical
industry. In order to do this, you will have to get clearer about your
job objectives and then rewrite your resume to meet the needs of the
companies you’re targeting. I’ve collected a variety of resources to
help you do this.

You should conduct some research about jobs and careers in marketing,
especially in the pharmaceutical industry. As a start, you should
identify the various options in the field of marketing (i.e., product
marketing, market research, advertising and public relations, etc.)
and decide what job or role you want to pursue in marketing.

Next, you will have to review your qualifications to meet the
requirements of your target job. You should pick out the transferable
skills and related experience that will make you a desirable candidate
and rewrite your resume to appeal to your target companies. Use job
postings and jobs boards to help you with developing the appropriate
language and keywords for your resume.

Once you’ve gotten clearer about your target jobs and why your target
employers should be impressed with your qualifications, you should
develop a prospect list of companies that could use your talents. Be
sure to check their websites for job postings, research their needs
and do everything you can to network your way into making a personal
connection with someone in the company.

I’ve collected a variety of resources to help you with making your
transition. Please don't hesitate to ask for clarification if any of
this isn't clear.

Good luck for your career change.
