I have two OS X machines, running 10.2.6 and 10.2.4 using Office X
with the 10.1.2 update. They have both gotten this error when going
to save a document. In neither case was this a new document. This has
happened 2 times on the 10.2.6 machine and once on the 10.2.4 machine.

Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or
write-protected. Try one or more of the following: Free more memory.
Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full,
write-protected, or damaged.

You cannot save, It cannot save when it tries to do its auto-save.
The only thing you can do is force-quit the Word application and
Restart the computer. All is well then when you start Word back up.
You can make changes to the document that gave you the error
previously.

I've seen stuff listed in Google for this error for Windows 95 and
Windows 2000. I didn't find anything relating to OS X. Help.

hi alfantioch,
Is the file you are trying to save have a filename greater than 31
characters?

I have experienced problems moving files with long filenames from the
command line and noticed that Internet Explorer shortens filenames
whenever I download files.

As a test, try to save the file as "filetest.doc". Let me know if
that works for you.
