Please tell me if you can locate helpful text, illustrated with concept maps and/or diagrams, to explain the complete Dewey Decimal Classification System. I have searched under "Dewey classification AND diagram" and obtained a couple of useful "hits" but they were geared at teaching young children parts of the system. I need information that covers the complete Dewey classification system. | |

There are several books, mostly used by library catalogers and students of library science that offer completely detailed explanations of the dewey decimal call number system: Dewey decimal classification and relative index / Melvil Dewey Dewey decimal classification, 21st edition : a study manual and number building guide / Mona L. Scott Dewey decimal classification, 19th edition : a study manual / by Jeanne Osborn |

As far as on the web the authority on the Dewey Decimal Classification system is OCLC's "Dewey Decimal Classification" homepage: http://www.oclc.org/oclc/fp/index.htm It is filled with tutorials and summaries. This website brought me here: http://acad.cl.uh.edu/edu/slo/cat/catbut07.htm#DEWEY The links to the summaries do not work but will bring you to a search box where you can search for various elements of the dewey system: http://www4.oclc.org/ |

Thanks for the direction to the official Dewey site with which I am familiar. I'm still looking for in depth diagrammatic illustrations to connect with the text to teach the concepts. I have a workbook on the 13th Abridged Edition but the self-paced teaching style in it is full of shortcomings - hence my request on Google! |
