I just bought a Daewoo L700C 17-inch monitor and, although the display
is generally better than my old CRT (no dead pixels, too!), I find
this irritating (I confess I am easily irritated) ghost image-like
shadow on the right-hand side of text in Windows buttons. That's the
bizzare thing. The text on Windows buttons, icons and menus and
desktop is all a wee bit fuzzy. Everything else seems just fine! Why
does this happen? However, this monitor has a 'movie mode' - an auto
picture setting. In movie mode, the shadow disappears (or is eclipsed,
whatever).

Hi Jayhk ~

It would help to know what your Operating system is ... Windows XP has
a setting for 'shadow' which will show up on your buttons and icons.

If you supply that information, I'm sure a Google Answers Researcher
will be able to help you troubleshoot your problem.

You might want to give details on your video card type and its driver
too... in case you probably may have changed settings in video
properties that caused the shadow.

Clarifications:

1. Windows Me
2. Intel 82815 graphics controller (on motherboard)
3. Shadow goes at 1152x864 (default 1280x1024 for monitor) but text 'bleeds'

Hope this helps - thanks.

Hi jayhk-ga,

LCD monitors usually operate under optimal circumstances on their
default settings, which in your case presumably will be 1280x1024 at
60Hz.

Different resolutions might result in a slightly blurred image, due to
the interpolation techniques used in LCD monitors.

Furthermore, a different refresh rate from the factory default might
result in the text blurring you mentioned. Have you checked if your
refresh rate is set to the default (presumably 60Hz, but check your
manual to make sure).

Changing the refresh rate on Windows ME:

On closer inspection, I find a right-sided ghost with all text,
invisible when the background is white or off-white.

I'm using 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz (factory default). There is no flicker at
all. No problem with pictures. Just text has a phantom extension,
which goes at 1152x864 but then text looks like it's on blotting
paper.

Most importantly, I need to know if I need to return my monitor or if
(1) this is life with LCD or (2) the problem is with the graphics card
or OS.

Thanks.
Jay

Hi Jayhk ~

Here's an article on your monitor from AnandTech, dated November,
2002.

Ghosting was noticed more on the 17" than on the 15" monitor, but
there was enough to be noted.

I wish I could be of more help.
