We would like to know the name(s) of companies manufacturing insulin
delivery systems which do not use needles (We already know about the
Carousel AdvantaJet) www.CarouselMed.com. We are only interested in
units suitable for children as we have a diabetic poodle who jumps,
leaps and squirms. Giving the needle is stressful to both her and us.
Carousel has a gentleJet for children being used on 3 cats. We would
be interested in finding other companies that we may contact to see if
their product is being used on animals. According to Carousel the
technology has been around for 30 years so there should be more
companies making this type of insulin delivery system, and more
studies/analysis. Any related information may be useful.

Here are two European devices:

Medical House Insulin Jet System MHI-500
http://www.insulinjet.com/

Injex
http://www.pharma.it/inj_que.htm

Injex can be purchased from Drugstore.com:

http://www.drugstore.com/qxdInjex+30+Needle+Free+System_333181_sespider/injex_30_needle_free_system/injex_30_needle_free_system.htm

You'll find information on three jet injectors near the bottom of this
page:

Children with Diabetes
http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/d_06_350.htm

Please let me know if I'm on the right track. If so, I'll be glad to
gather more information about these devices.

Thank you for this valuable information. I am a little concerned that
we are going to use this on a dog who can't tell us whether it hurts
or not. I have the name of one person using one of these on a cat. I
would love to be able to speak to someone (or read) who has used this
device on a 25 lb poodle. My husband says you are the best researcher
on Google so maybe you can do the impossible and find a dog user. If
not, ours may be the first and I am grateful for the information you
were able to find. Neil's wife
ps: Poodle is our family, finding out that I had to stick her twice a
day (from a vet who spent 10 minutes telling us how to do it) threw me
into depression and now I have to take medication. We are old, that
doesn't help. :)

I am very sorry, but I have not been able to find specific information
regarding the use of jet injectors on dogs. However, this type of
device is recommended for use on children, and if your doggie is like
mine, there's a lot of similarity between a dog and a small child. You
might want to telephone some of the companies I mentioned and discuss
the problem with them. I cannot do this in your behalf, since I have a
hearing loss that prevents me from using the phone.

I do know from firsthand experience how stressful it can be to have a
pet who needs daily medication. I sincerely hope another Researcher
will be able to find documentation on an insulin injection system for
your poodle.

Best wishes,
pinkfreud
