Replacing Favourite Trousers

I have a pair of Mens' Lowe Alpine trousers, size L, light beige colour that I would like to replace. They are VERY old, possibly 7 years or more. I've been to all the local 'Outdoor' shops without success. They were made in Thailand. Any ideas? I would consider shipping the trousers to someone who could make me some more pairs if the price was right, etc. |

Why Bryan, you truly *are* a very clever boy indeed to have solved your problem so neatly! You have not only found your trousers, but saved yourself the possible grief of dealing with international mail order, which can be a very daunting prospect - yes, yes, very clever indeed. I am most impressed. Thank you for accepting my efforts, however, and be sure to hold onto the information about contacting Lowe Alpine just in case you should ever need to find something else of theirs (oh yes, and in future might I recommend that if the style number is not imprinted somewhere upon an article, that you write it down somewhere before discarding the paper tags? One never knows... ). Lowe Alpine Group (UK) Limited Ann Street Kendal Cumbria LA9 6AA Tel. 01539 740840 Fax. 01539 726314 e-mail: info@lowealpine.co.uk UK enquires only Warmest regards and many thanks for being such a great GA customer! Hi, Byrd Many thanks for everything! However, I have had to spend £60 (Sterling, not Turkish) on the new trousers. I do hope that you will find it in your heart to reimburse me for this expenditure? YES, I do take PayPal. Kindest regards Bryan |

Since I can't possibly tell exactly which variety of Lowe Alpine trousers you have without seeing them, and therefore can't know whether any supplier(s) has them or even if they're still in production, I'm posting this as a comment instead of an answer. If you know the style # and/or name, you might try ordering from a mail order house. Here are three that carry Lowe Alpine trousers: http://www.cotswold-outdoor.com/Cat/7229 http://www.snowdonranger.co.uk/uk2shop-11.htm http://www.sierratradingpost.com/search/vendor_results.asp?vendor=1280&showImages=yes&mscssid=3A85F30C65E04D12B2A6557FC30D1A1A Should they not have "your" trousers, you could try contacting Lowe Alpine itself by phone or email to see if they might direct you to a store or outlet near you, or one online. Here's their main website: http://www.lowealpine.com/ If that should also fail, then certainly, most any good tailor will have the ability to take apart your trousers and make a custom pattern for you, which could then be used any number of times to make another pair(s). I'd suggest you just go through the list in your phone book and phone them up to inquire as to willingness, price, etc. Good luck - I know what it's like to have a favorite article of clothing wear out and then not be able to find a replacement! Worth the search. And, uh, might I suggest next time you buy two (or three) pair so as to have one or two in reserve ... I've learned that little trick the hard way! Cheers, Byrd |

Hi, Byrd Many thanks for taking the trouble. If no one else comes up with anything better then please post your comment as an answer. I have already looked on-line and the model I like seems to have been superseded. There may have been a model number on the paper tag but that was thrown away the day I bought them. Incidentally, I did buy 2 pairs at the time, without then realising how great they were. It's not just the style but also the material. Regards Bryan |

Thank you, Bryan. I appreciate your generosity and will be glad to post my comments as an answer if no one else is able to help you out. But we certainly need to make sure the question stays open long enough to give others a chance. If you don't get an answer, then you just let me know when you think it's been long enough and we'll go from there. In the meantime, I forgot to mention that I recently contacted the manufacturer of a particular item that I'd been having trouble finding, with the result that they told me it was no longer being made, but they had a few left at the factory and I could order directly from them if I wished. I wished! So, I realize without the # you're a little handicapped in describing what you have there, but perhaps by giving them a description along with the name of the store where you originally purchased them as well as approximately when, they might be able to figure it out. Also, sometimes they hide those style #s on a little tag inside the garment somewhere, like an inside seam or something. I'm sure you've already checked but it might be worth having another look-see just in case it's gotten itself all curled up or something and you overlooked it. Anyway, should you wish to try contacting Lowe Alpine, here is their contact information for UK customers: Lowe Alpine Group (UK) Limited Ann Street Kendal Cumbria LA9 6AA Tel. 01539 740840 Fax. 01539 726314 e-mail: info@lowealpine.co.uk UK enquires only All the best, Byrd |

Hi, Again, Byrd I've now found some great trousers (although not identical) ... in a local shop would you believe? So, problem solved. Please post your answer and, in order to get a 5 Star rating, you must tell me (and everybody in GA-GA Land) what a clever boy I am. Regards Bryan |

Dear Bryan, Oh dear me, um, £60 *sterling* ? I'm so very sorry to hear of this empty state of the pockets in your new trousers -- apparently your local trouser outlet did not see fit to discount a local customer, tsk, tsk. How sad. But I'm afraid I must beg your patience on the reimbursement as I only possess the Turkish variety of pounds and PayPal seems to have a slight problem with conversion ... However, I shall be on the lookout for their change of heart, and in the meantime, seek opportunity to increase your pockets' weight another way. :-) Best regards, Byrd |
