I received this Amazon Trail Third Edition CD Rom game but it has no
paper or online instructions. I have no idea how to get started
playing it. There
are no hints included--just graphics and choices, but no matter which
choice is selected, the same graphics appear, with no directions as to
what to do next. Is there any way I can get an instruction book or
find out how to play it. The company does not offer technical
support. I've already e-mailed them. Thank you.

Here is an explanation of the game from Mac.com:
http://homepage.mac.com/giantmike/reviews/amazontrail.html

Is this sufficient, or do you need more information?

Hi klutzie,

I always believe that he first place to go when you have problems
is the site of the publisher,
http://www.riverdeep.net/support/product_support/a/mzntrl3r11415.jhtml,
or http://www.learningcompanyschool.com/shopping/prod_detail/main.asp?MainCatID=0&catID=10&sl=0&Header=social_sci_hdr.gif&productID=43

Interestingly, I visited at least half a dozen sites which sell
this product, and all of them have mentioned that the manual is in an
electronic form in the CD. So, please check your CD, if you already
haven't.

I'm not posting this as an answer, since I couldn't find what you
required online.

Cheers,
aditya2k

I have visited the website you listed more than once. They're the
ones who tell me they have no way of helping me. What should I look
for on the CD? When I first click on the game icon, I get several
choices: Readme, Install, Uninstall, Demos(turns out to be ads for
other games), Play and Quit. I've already installed the disk, and
clicking on Readme only provides legal information about the game's
copyright, etc. When I click on Play, I get the introduction to the
game's plot and the 4 guides. After selecting a guide, I make a
choice about which supply package to buy. After that, all I see is
the bow of a small boat skimming along the Amazon with forests in the
distance. There is a toolbar which offers choices including icons of
a guide, guidebook, description of contents of the supply package and
other choices which provide various scientific information. No matter
which I select, or how far I go into any one of these choices, I
always end up back in the bow of the boat. There is a compass icon,
but nothing explaining its use. When I click on the "next" icon, it
returns me to the boat. If there are instructions, I obviously don't
know how to access them. (Thus, the name "Klutzie.") Perhaps you
could pass on my question to the game's manufacturer, since I don't
seem to get anywhere doing so on my own. Thank you.

When you insert the game in your CD-Rom drive, you should be able to
navigate to it via Windows Explorer. You're looking for a .pdf or
.doc file somewhere on there. You may try searching for all .pdf or
.doc files on the disc.

Hope this helps...

Hello Klutzie,

As I said in my clarification request, I remember my sister has played
this game, so I called her. It was in fact the same game, I had her
check. The version she was playing was for the Macintosh, so I hope
all this still applies if you are playing it on a Windows machine.

From what you described, you have actually already started the game.
Most of the navigating you do is in the boat, so you will spend much
time looking at the bow of it. You move the boat forward (and hence go
down the Amazon) by holding your mouse pointer in front of the boat.
If you hold your mouse in front of the boat but to the left (or the
right), you will row forward and to left (or right). As you row
further down the river, you will be able to get out of the boat from
time to time and play on foot to complete some tasks. I believe that
this will happen automatically when you get to certain points in the
river, so avoid rowing to the shore or you may crash and lose some of
your supplies. The compass that you talk about should point you in the
direction of your next 'objective,' so try following it. Some of the
choices in the toolbar include fishing for food, picking fruits in the
forest, and taking pictures of animals in the forest (to complete some
book).

As for the manual, I would also suggest looking around the CD. It
might be totally separate from the game, so look at all the contents
of the CD before you click on the game icon.

I hope this helps you, if you have any more questions please don't
hesitate to post a request for clarification
