Hello Bradinman,
Yes, a US Citizen can own property in Chile.
Chile is a popular destination for North American investors in ranch,
farmland and coastal properties. Mortgages can be financed for up to
75 percent of the total price of a real estate loan. There are no
restrictions on foreign property ownership.

NAR's Presidential Liaison to Chile Jose Serrano, a RealtorŪ from
Raleigh, N.C., said, "Our goal is to strengthen our existing bilateral
relationships in Chile as we look to expand markets and opportunities.
U.S. citizens buy property in Chile because property is inexpensive
and real estate investment is stable. "

Chile Business Law
The first step for a U.S. citizen, corporation or entity wishing to do
business in Chile on its own is to present a declaration of intent to
invest in Chile to a Chilean Consulate, stating the nature of the
business and the capital to be invested, simultaneously requesting a
Permanent Residence Visa. This confers an official residence status to
the company, without which it will be barred from conducting
commercial activities in Chile.
