Hi tbulba-a!
If you don't mind, could you answer a few questions so I can get a
better understanding of the issue?

Are you behind a firewall when you connect at work?

How do you connect when you are at work? Do you just plug into a phone
jack and dial up, or do you connect to your workplace's network in
order to get to the web?

When you are at work, and unable to get to eBay's site, what is the
exact error message it gives? For example, "the page cannot be
displayed" ect...

Have you tried going to the site from work by typing in the URL as
opposed to using the link in your favorites?

Thanks!

tbulba-ga,thanks for your reply!
The network at your workplace, is it a large network, or just a few
computers?

Do you have a network administrator,or something such as an onsite
technician who maintains the network and if so, have you spoke to them
about the possiblity that their firewall may be blocking you from
going to ebay?

I would would have to say, that with the information you have provided
me with so far, that the problem lies somewhere in your connection
through the network at work. The only thing that is changing from when
you are at home, and at work, is "how" you are connecting to the
internet. Have you had any problems going to any other websites while
at work?

On the same network at work, are your co-workers able to get to eBay
from their own computers?

What operating system are you running on your laptop?(Win98, WinXp
ect)
Which browser are you using and what version? (Internet Explorer 6,
Netscape 7 ect)

Sorry for so many questions, but when dealing with solving technical
issues of a hardware/software related nature, it's often a "process of
elimination" in order to find the most appropriate resolution.
Thanks for your patience!

As it is the same computer that he is moving from one network gateway
to another, I doubt he is changing browsers. So, browser versions and
types are irrelevant to the problem. The answer is probably his
work's firewall. Also, some work LANs require a proxy to surf the
internet. If you can't reach all other URLs on the internet, then a
proxy may be the culprit. If you can reach any at all on the
internet, I suspect the firewall. Another thought is a failed DNS.
Try reaching eBay with their IP address:

http://66.135.192.87/

If it is a proxy, you will need to make the change in the browser's
connection between work and home use.
