I have found five of these newsgroups -- every newsgroup except
absnet.forsale. Two of the newsgroups, which you list as
"adt&sateldite.tv.forsale" and "adt.forsale.nutrition", are actually
under slightly different names, which I feel confident are correct.

Would you be interested in these five newsgroups as an answer?

Hello narnia-ga,

Finding a newsgroup, and opening it, is fairly straightforward once
you have the name. All you need to do is to search for the name of
the group on Google Groups ( http://groups.google.com/ ). So, for
example, if you search for 5col.forsale on Google Groups, you get the
following result:

"Group: 5col . forsale"
Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=5col.forsale+&meta=

The other groups I have found in this way from your list are:

"Group: achilles . forsale"
Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=achilles.forsale&meta=

"Group: alt . satellite . tv . forsale"
Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=alt.satellite.tv.forsale+&meta=

"Group: alt . forsale . nutrition"
Google Groups
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&safe=off&q=alt.forsale.nutrition&meta=

I did not find a group for absnet.forsale (or anything similar) by
searching and browsing on Google Groups.

With respect to alt.satellite.tv.forsale and alt.forsale.nutrition,
you can see that I changed "adt" to "alt" -- "alt" is a commonly
recognized beginning for a group name, while "adt" is not. I also
made other necessary changes -- replacing the "&" with a ".", and
correcting the spelling of "sateldite" to "satellite".

I hope that this information is helpful.

Hi, narnia.

The Usenet groups that you are looking for might not exist, even if
they are listed.

Here's a quote from Jeremy Nixon, usenet guru. The quote is vaugely
related to the topic of your 'missing' groups. =)

"Some providers try to impress you by quoting the sheer size of their
newsgroup list (in Usenet-speak, it's called an active file). They
will tell you they are a better provider because they carry “all”
60,000 newsgroups, or some such thing.

Nonsense.

For starters, there are not 60,000 newsgroups. Anyone who says they
have that many has an active file full of garbage. A lot of joke
groups get created, especially in the alt.* hierarchy, and such a
system is going to have all of them. They are also going to have old
newsgroups that are long dead, misspelled newsgroups, and an
assortment of other nonsense. A large active file gives a provider a
simple number which is easily inflated to be larger than their
competition, and they can then claim that “bigger is better” despite
the fact that it isn't."

That came from here:
http://www.exit109.com/~jeremy/news/providers/shopping.html#active

The document, and other documents on the same site, is highly
informative.

My point is, I don't think that you'll be able to find those news
groups, or that there will be many messages on them if you do find
them, (because, nobody else can find them..)

Hope this helps.
