I am unable to access my web site typing ftp.(site name) using my G3
laptop and internet Explorer 5.1. I get the message 'A connection
error occured'. I have no trouble accessing the site from another
computer. Any ideas?

Are you getting the message when using IE under OS X or OS 9.1?
Is the other computer you can access it from a computer in the same
location or is it elsewhere (i.e. work vs. home)?

I also use a Mac (under OS 9.1) and IE 5.1 does strange stuff at
times. I've gotten the "A connection error occured" message before
for no good reason. A friend recently convinced me to go back to
using IE 5.0 and so far I'm finding 5.0 to work better, although it
doesn't draw some pages correctly. So if you still have 5.0, you may
want to try that.

Also, the person above me mentioned proxy settings and you can also
toy with those: Edit...Prefs...Network...Proxies.

Lastly, you really should download and use a separate FTP client. For
Mac, you want Fetch:
http://fetchsoftworks.com/

Fetch rocks the house and works flawlessly. If you do any amount of
uploads via FTP, you need to try out the program.

Here's a random guess: Your Mac is behind a router or firewall of
some kind, and you need to enable PASV mode ftp. There should be a
checkbox for that in Internet Explorer Advanced options.

And, also, don't use Internet Explorer for FTP. ;) Get an FTP client.
Sorry, I don't know the name of such a client. See, I don't use
google to answer questions on here. I just use my head. ;)

Hope this helps.
