<There are a number of companies that provide the necessary services
to allow businesses in Ghana to process credit card payments online.
These companies are in contact with the credit card companies and will
check that the customer has sufficient funds to make the purchase and
that the card used has not been reported lost or stolen. Some
companies also provide additional software that helps to detect
fraudulent purchases.

Internet Secure.
Internet Secure offers credit card processing services in 84 countries
including Ghana. The company has a good reputation with approval from
9 major North American financial institutions.

It allows you to accept the four major credit cards – Visa,
MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

It takes 10-15 seconds for authorization (checking that the buyer has
sufficient funds on their card to make the purchase) and fraud
detection.
They have a low rate of charge-backs of 0.49%.
The money can be wired to a bank account in Ghana in a currency of
your choice.

Services include ‘Verified by Visa’ which verifies the card holder’s

You will soon know as you process a transaction whether or not the
amount has been authorised.

There is no way that any retailer can find out the balance available
on any card and, indeed, it is not relevant.

However, notwithstanding the authorisation, if the card has been
stolen or compromised then you are likely to be charged back for any
fraudulent transaction.
