Thanks for your efforts everyone!  I'm really surprised & pleased -
Google Answers actually seems to work!!
 
Context is that I got an email enquiry into our company - a corporate
travel agency called World Club Travel Ltd - requesting we send out
company brochures, info etc - and I couldn't find any info on the net
about the company/person who had made the request, so I wondered if it
was any of our competitors snooping on us.  What a perfect question to
pose to Google Answers I thought!

Hello, Steve. I know how hard it is to determine if a company is
legitimate, but happily in your case, it is. From learning that the
company is in the (small) town of Sawbridgeworth, I visited the
countywide Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is
at:

A search of "Carrot" brought up the company, and what that puzzling
"CI" stands for. The full company name is Carrot Conference and
Incentive - which certainly seems to qualify as a prospect for your
travel business.

They don't seem to have a website, however; there are no links in any
of the local sites I visited that relate to Sawbridgeworth or
Hertfordshire businesses. In addition, their chamber listing does not
have a phone number, and there is no phone number on record with
either British Telecom or Yell.com.

You may want to call the Hertsfordshire Chamber for a reference if
you're not still completely comfortable sending your materials: their

A quick search of the UK Yellow Pages online (http://www.yell.co.uk/)
reveals no matches for companies called either "Carrot" or "Carrott"
in the Cambridge area, and nothing for "Carrot CI" anywhere in the UK.
Are you sure you have the correct details? Where have you got the
company name from?

It seems the most likely match for this question is an organisation
called "Caret". They describe themselves as:

"CARET is the Centre for Applied Reseach in Educational Technology

There isn't much point in me copying and pasting all the information
from their website, as it seems very clear and concise. They have lots

I would still be cautious, a search of Companies House does not list
Carrot CI as a registered company.
